The Shenzhen Metro Yuehaijing Garden project, strategically positioned in Bao'an District atop the Airport East Depot adjacent to Metro Line 12, represents a paradigm shift in Transit-Oriented Development (TOD) within the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. This 423,444㎡ mixed-use development, initiated in 2025, seamlessly integrates 4,000+ residential units with commercial amenities and public infrastructure, all layered above an active metro depot. It is a landmark urban renewal practice that physically demonstrates Shenzhen Metro Group's corporate mission to "operate the metro and serve the city."
The design challenges conventional depot-top development by introducing the core concept of an "All-Weather Five-Star Homecoming Experience." The key innovation is a fully integrated, weather-protected corridor system that ensures seamless, barrier-free connectivity from the Xingwei Station concourse to every residential core. This meticulously planned pedestrian network transcends mere functionality, offering a dignified, climate-resilient commute that redefines human-centric mobility in a high-density environment.
Strategically, the project embodies the "metro + property" model at its highest level. By vertically stacking residential communities above critical rail infrastructure, it achieves exceptional land-use efficiency, transforming industrial transit space into valuable urban fabric. The design leverages the adjacent Phoenix Mountain as a natural asset, orienting building layouts and visual corridors to capture expansive green vistas. A multi-layered ecological system—featuring roof gardens, sky terraces, and sunken courtyards—enhances biodiversity, mitigates the urban heat island effect, and forges a symbiotic relationship between infrastructure and nature.
From a socio-urban perspective, the project breaks from the gated-community prototype. It introduces a 24-hour public concourse system—an "urban vitality link"—that connects the transit hub, retail podiums, and surrounding neighborhoods. This porous interface promotes social inclusion and pedestrian activity, transforming a private amenity into public infrastructure that activates the city's "capillaries." A holistic approach to urban design, unifying facade languages, material palettes, and lighting strategies, further elevates the district's identity and provides a replicable template for cohesive city-making.
Yuehaijing Garden reimagines transit-oriented living. Nestled between Shenzhen's metro and Phoenix Mountain, it transforms daily commutes into serene, garden-like journeys through covered walkways, green roofs, and open pathways. This is architecture that cares—about how we move, feel, and belong.
