Located in Wenzhou’s Dongtou district, this project revitalizes a former ice plant dating back to the 1970s. By reimagining circulation and integrating digital art, it transforms an industrial relic into a new landmark for culture and tourism, inviting visitors to explore the harmonious fusion of nature, art, and culture.
In terms of circulation, the project rejects the conventional single entrance directly from the street. Instead, a newly constructed bridge guides visitors out over the sea, creating a gentle psychological transition; at the same time, the height difference between the bridge and the water naturally evokes a sense of excitement and curiosity. Connected at a 90-degree angle to the bridge is a long corridor that funnels visitors from the vast seascape into the interior. This not only effectively calms them down, but also leverages meticulously designed visual obstruction to heighten the anticipation of entry. The core of the project is a three-story “Twisted Glass Box,” which serves as the tallest and most functionally concentrated interior area. By twisting the original square floor plan outward into a pentagon, it increases usable space and offers expansive vantage points. Paired with oversized floor-to-ceiling glass windows, it delivers a 360-degree panoramic view, allowing visitors to take in the mountains and sea from within.
The building operates around a “coffee by day, wine by night” model, specially incorporating digital art and light installations to enable rapid ambiance shifts. Its facade can be converted into a colossal 4K ultra-HD screen via a holographic naked-eye 3D mapping system, with content continuously updated by digital artists for different times and festivals. This ensures that every visit offers a unique sensory experience, and helps create an immersive, multi-faceted cultural destination. Inside, the space employs holographic projection and AI-powered dynamic imaging, switching between two primary themed scenes (sunset bluescape and tranquil nighttime) according to the time of day. Ocean waves and blue glaciers flow slowly through the space, complemented by full-range stereo speakers, fostering a truly soothing, immersive atmosphere.
