This case is a duplex apartment, and the design priority is to create a spacial perception and enough storage area.

The designer decides to go with a settled yet lux route in the living room, with various of textures are introduced into the space, creating a hotel-like vibe. The TV wall uses antique stone to show its natural texture, with night lights added to the side and the bottom, which not only brings out a different atmosphere but keeps safety in mind. The back wall is covered with slate, enriches the space with the beauty of nature. This goes along with the tree-shaped cabinet beside the window. While lights reflect on the cabinet’s rain-forest-brown marble and create a sense of serenity, this is also the solution of a feng shui problem that occurs at the room.

The bar area is a combination of five different types of stone, which highlights the main focus of the living room. With a floating bar, the heavy stone can be light and soft, and keep the room open. To meet up with the standards for fire safety equipment, the designer opens up the celling, adding different levels of layers to the space.

The concrete staircase was originally placed next to the bar, but it blocked the light and sight, which led to a visually smaller room. Therefore, it was replaced by a see-through hardware staircase and moved to the corner. The stair treads are poured with cement and then paved with stone to increase stability and solidity. The skirting lights are also installed for safety concern. The back wall is a mixture of padded leather board and glass, stretching across the first and second floor, creating a continuity between these two areas.

On the second floor stands a feature wall. With some glass blocks embedded into the nature stone, the wall not only offers privacy but bringing the natural light into the bathroom of the master bedroom. The space beneath the stairs becomes a storage area.
