The series is shaped around the form of a cloud supporting a gourd, creating a visual expression of rising clouds and arriving fortune. Auspicious clouds unfold from below, lifting the gourd in layered progression and forming an upward structure that suggests blessings descending from above. In an Eastern cultural context, clouds are seen as signs of good fortune, while the gourd, a homophone of “fortune and prosperity,” carries wishes for both. With clouds as the bridge and the gourd as the vessel, these symbolic meanings are given a clear and tangible form.
This series is crafted from Nanhong (Southern Red Agate), a natural stone characterized by its vibrant red hues and traditionally used in fine jewelry and artifacts since ancient times. Its color is understated and its texture refined, complemented by a gentle, warm luster on the surface. The red is concentrated rather than diffuse, lending the pieces a more composed and steady presence. As light shifts, the layers of color become more distinct, offering a richer and more nuanced visual experience.
