The BLK247 from Leica Geosystems, part of Hexagon, is a smart 3D surveillance system that uses sensor fusion technology—a combination of video cameras, thermal imaging, and LiDAR—along with edge computing and AI to instantly detect and report physical changes within a space. Ultimately, the BLK247 reduces false alarms and increases overall confidence in the security system.

The BLK247 builds 3D digital fences around specific areas or objects, and it self-learns the space it monitors, known as a “static scene,” to determine authorized or unauthorized activity through change-detection technology. These geofenced areas can protect specific zones that the end-user determines to create a customized security system. It also incorporates time-based rules determined by the end user to establish specific times of day to monitor specific zones.

The BLK247 can tell the difference between still and moving objects, and it can identify the difference between people and small animals, trees moving, rain or trash blowing through the scene. The LiDAR system verifies whether an intrusion took place, and it verifies with other sensors whether or not the intruder is a human. Its AI and edge computing power can identify an intruder and notify you immediately. Powered by Ethernet, the BLK247 is always-on and continuously scans the environment around it, 24/7, without interruption.

Building owners, operators, and managers can cut security costs while greatly improving the security of their properties with 3D LiDAR-based surveillance. The BLK247 reduces false positives due to LiDAR accuracy combined with integrated video cameras, complements video surveillance with depth data, works in all lighting conditions, and has onboard AI and edge computing to distinguish between threats and non-threats, which can reduce or eliminate the need for security guards. The BLK247 also sends alerts regarding any intrusion or security breach. These alerts are the same that existing VMS users are familiar with, including phone, text, email, photo, video, live video feed, and alarms.
