In this tiny residence ranging only 40 square meters, the role of doors functional in interior design and daily life is reinterpreted because doors should bridge the family and should never serve as mere partitions. What is specifically significant in this case is the whole interior layout adopts sliding doors, revolving doors, and revolving windows that are simultaneously functional and flexible and further give a fine balance between visible/invisible and open/closed to the place. Sliding doors and revolving doors and windows are employed to manage the dynamics between residents and spaces since the owner can define his/her own residential spaces, and also invite rays inside with natural lighting in a residence.

Regarding solution one, a.k.a. the planning from the entry to the living room, in order to avoid a narrow feel brought by the crossbeam, the sloping ceiling combined with the recessed lamp and indirect lighting manages a lightweight crossbeam, which uses a novel lighting layout to replace the unpleasant crossbeam with the function. From the entry to the living room, the refracted ray like natural light presents a subtle play of light and shade dancing in the house. Meanwhile, the newly-built tiny housing in Taiwan is accustomed to the non-entrance design. In pursuit of the visible transition between the indoor and outdoor zones, the cool tiled floor as a hidden but obvious partition is adopted in the outdoor zone to contrast the cozy hardwood flooring in the indoor zone.

As for storage, a lot of cabinets are set up in many spaces, including a tall shoe cabinet reaching the ceiling at the entry and a 30-rack storage wall on the TV wall in the living room where all cabinets are intentionally handle-free to reduce the visual discomfort brought by giant cabinets and to make the giant cabinets hardly noticeable in the public space. The elevated kid’s playroom has four large drawers underneath the entrance and is functional as storage.
