McCafé 2020 Holiday Packaging

At the end of 2020, we knew McDonald’s customers would be craving instant moments of uplift and escape. Because after a year that had left us all feeling more than a little jittery, we wanted to fill up our fans’ cups with a hefty pour of optimism and help them feel the love more than ever.



Boxer answered just in time with a delightfully designed line of seasonal holiday packaging for McCafé that delivered a feel-good pick me up that everyone could warm up to.



Determined to draw design inspiration directly from our loyal customers, we were struck by the notion that just like them, no two snowflakes are the same. From there, we set out to create bright, imaginative, hopeful packaging centered around unique snowflakes. On each cup and bag produced, a one-of-a-kind snowflake adorns a golden canvas.



To make the season even sweeter, we seized on the launch of the McCafé Bakery items as our opportunity to add cheery charm and simple, playful design to even more new packaging for the ultimate impact.



As an added moment of heartwarming surprise, we hid coffee beans in the snowflakes for a whimsical flourish of our great coffee loved the world over. Pairing the nostalgia of a familiar holiday icon with a modern McCafé aesthetic and coffee-infused twist felt like just the right note to strike for our amazing customers.



Inviting endless moments of optimism, our 12-piece packaging system was able to be used across the entire coffee and bakery line.



In a year like no other, we gave millions seasonal delight aplenty served hot, cold, unique and bold.
