We create unique, asymmetrical and non-repeat digital patterns using a software programme called mov.i.see, which is designed by our studio team. Our software uses body movement to reconstruct digital data and reveal organic details not possible solely by programming. Our patterns are therefore very different from those created using traditional methods, such as mirroring or rotating. Lead designer Yen-Ting Cho adjusts the patterns and colours by hand. The designs are then digitally-printed onto fabrics. Through trial-error, we use digital printing techniques that reproduce the fine detail of the original designs and keep their sense of movement whilst retaining the special colour combinations.

This 2021 scarf collection is inspired by New York City: its energy, landscape and eclectic culture and architecture, from art deco to the super contemporary. The challenge for this collection was to produce unique patterns that could be applied to playful, aesthetically-pleasing and desirable unisex products.

We began by researching ideas and colour-ways, gathering visual data and experimenting with the software to create new pattern designs specifically for this collection. Having selected images and videos of eight Manhattan landmarks and landscapes, including the iconic Chrysler building, the shimmering Hudson River and bustling Times Square, we incorporated various shapes and forms, including linear patterns, lines, zigzags, crystal and swirls to generate variety and completeness in terms of design. We modified the patterns whilst they were being created, rather than allow the software to wholly dictate the design, so the final patterns also reveal the authorship of the designer.

With asymmetrical and unique colour combinations, these scarves can be worn in different ways, to reflect individual expression and fit changing fashion needs and occasions. The patterns are printed through the wool, so each pattern is double-sided. The wool is specially treated so that it is extremely comfortable and non-abrasive to the touch. Gender neutral, our scarves make a bold fashion statement and add a splash of colour to any outfit.
