Compatibility

A residence is a place recording every moment of life and carrying the present and future of the family. This is a reconstruction project of a house. The owner is an entrepreneur who’s often on business trip. After the children establish their own families, the owner decides to recreate space for family reunion. The designer incorporates different characteristics of each family members and create exclusive spaces for them, creating more family reunion memories.



The owner and his wife grew up with traditional Chinese culture, while their children receive Western education. Therefore, the designer uses modern and simple pragmatism to create a unique style that is compatible with both Chinese and Western culture. Light tone, earth tone and dark wooden objects are adopted as the main tone, creating a gentle and neat atmosphere. Embellish with lines and materials to add more details. The raised ceiling of the first floor makes the space more majestic and comfortable. Multiple storage and display cabinets are installed in the living room and they connect the dining room and semi-open kitchen, making the whole space transparent, spacious and creating smooth circulation. In addition, rest area and outdoor kitchen are also divided, with sunlight, air and greenery introduced to the kitchen. The designer makes good use of the public area and optimize the quality and usage of the space, guiding the family reunion time.



The Chinese study room on the second floor is primitive and cozy, while the top floor is in retro and luxury style. The styles of different areas are tailor-made for different family members and they transfer smoothly and gently and connect perfectly. Various styles revel their charms and coexist harmoniously. Every corner is a transition for the next activity, and every thought and movement are surprise.
