CR Life Sciences Park

CR Life Sciences Park is located in Daxing District, Beijing, China. The park was projected to be a large pharmaceutical production plant. However, it was reimagined as an integrated Industry park, which incorporates elements of manufacturing, academia, research, and smart applications. The Science Park’s start-up zone is located on the northeast side of the complex, the three factory buildings on the north side and a 220m-long power corridor had already been completed. Our design team needed to complete the renovation of the old buildings and the construction of the three buildings. According to the old buildings, we used the method of reducing the dimensions of the plant and applying a more dramatic façade. While for the new building, we reinterpreted through a process of dissimilation in order to maximize the available concession area in the central plaza to form an enclosure interior space. These cold, traditional industrial buildings repelled visitors. We organically integrated the three new buildings into the existing architecture with regard to aesthetic style and space and reoriented the spatial functions of the site to focus more on R&D rather than production, so as to pay greater attention to the perception and behavior of people from an architectural perspective.
