The designer hoped to create a space where its characteristics are created through the artworks, collections, cuisines, and a craftsman's spirit. This space is not only for dining but a gallery that presents the owner’s art collection and cuisines. Customers will be experiencing outstanding cooking skills as well as the artistic and spiritual vibe when visiting the restaurant. The details in the space have also represented the concept of less is more. Visitors will build strong connections with the interior through the mix-and-match between building materials, elements, and items. For example, the yakisugi bans of the hallway are processed in a special way that its texture echoes with the overall tonal while giving a heart-warming sense. As for the architectural concrete, it is specially made to be rusty to embody the central theme aesthetically. This project is a Japanese restaurant, and its owner is a professional craftsman who loves to collect antiques and art pieces. Hence, the designer focused on creating a space that can perfectly combine artwork with cuisines while delivering the essence of the Japanese spirit in a modern and aesthetic way. Yakisugi bans, a material with characteristics of moisture-proof, anti-corrosion, mothproof, abrasion resistance, high-temperature resistance, and acid and alkali resistance, are used as the project’s primary building material. It can absorb impurities while filtering the air to improve users’ environment.
The cement paint is formaldehyde-free and is a water-based eco-friendly material that does not contain low VOC (low volatile organic compounds). Other building materials are also in line with standards of green building materials and certifications in other countries.
The modeling wall of the hallway is designed without a roof with two parts hallowed underneath, allowing lightings to be effectively projected, increasing brightness while having sufficient ventilation effects even when the door is closed.
