This project is a tailor-made residence for the elderly. Through the renovation of the house, a safe, bright, comfortable and barrier-free home space is created. With user orientation as the starting point, the project takes into account the elderly's feelings about the scale of space, recognition, needs and sense of belonging from the rooms to the living spaces, so as to plan the interaction between people and space and maintain the elderly's original life style and social relationship. The designer takes the actual needs as the starting point and doubles the scale of the corridor, prioritizing the smooth flow and flexible use of space to create a barrier-free space for the elderly to move around. The public area is located at the center of the space, and the designer has created a two-way Washitsu room, which connects living areas in a radial form. The elderly lady can entertain her guests here, and when the sliding door is closed, it is an independent space. The large floor-to-ceiling windows on the side brighten the space, where the two elderly can enjoy the coziness with the outdoor view. Through the integration of old and new, the transformation of spatial materials and the integration of configurations, the designers brought a new look to the old house. Thinking from the perspective of the elderly residents, the original space with height difference is adjusted to the same height, and the scale of space is enlarged to facilitate the activities of the elderly. By using floor-to-ceiling windows, light is naturally introduced to make the space bright and comfortable. Through the concealed plumbing design, the designer expands the space of the house. In this space, the elderly can move around freely and comfortably, and the family and caretaker can enjoy a spacious and high quality living space while taking into account the need for interaction and privacy.
