Architectural Lighting Design for POETRY COURTYARD

The lighting design utilizes lines and points to echo the undulating form of the architecture, which further enriches the layers of the building and highlights its aesthetic details. Based on analysis of the relationship between architecture and landscape at night, the designers identified the relationship of primary and secondary lighting for the building and the landscape, and accurately determined the nodes for lamp installation. Lights of different intensity and forms are attached to various landscape elements, realizing the balance of lighting effect, aesthetics, functionality and cost.
The architecture is blended with the landscape, which creates a large artistic space enclosed by the landscape. The project inherits oriental aesthetic landscaping techniques and adequately demonstrates a scenery-borrowing relationship.
Coordination with other professions
In face of a tight schedule, teams of different professions worked simultaneously on design development and adjustment after the client determined the design scheme. As the project progressed, the work of lighting fixtures installation was carried out at the same time as the curtain wall details treatment. The efficient communication among various teams involved in the project ensured an organic combination of lighting fixtures and curtain walls, and well balanced the demand for a lightweight curtain wall system and the lighting requirement.
Response to limitations
Under a tight schedule and a limited budget for lighting engineering, we evaluated lighting fixture samples for several times, to strictly control the lighting effect and size of lamps, thereby eventually providing the client with an optimal solution that balanced lighting effect and cost.
Energy saving and innovation
The lighting design harmonizes with the architecture's contemporary leisurely and elegant style. To interpret the "leisurely" atmosphere, the light shines from the inside out, rather than deliberately enveloping the building. To show "elegance", the lighting design emphasizes people’s need for relaxation. Therefore, instead of strengthening the shape of the building by using high-power lighting fixtures to wash the roof, we adopted small-sized and low-power lighting fixtures to highlight the unique details of the building’s exteriors, and to echo the secluded character of space.
