Reverse Conventional Office

In response to the changes in human behavior patterns since the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic, people no longer want to be indoors with large crowds and prefer to stay in outdoor space. The pandemic changes people’s working life. The new challenges we are facing now are not just the redesigning the conventional indoor workplace but also the new perspectives about comfort, health and rejuvenation, the solutions to the desire to socialize with people, and the needs for collaborative work. Moving the workplace to the outdoors improves people’s health and mood, keeps the epidemic away from people and helps people work and feel better.

Garden Office

A post-pandemic garden office was created by using large amount of plants, large-area of daylighting and ventilation, and low-density use. The outdoor office space realized the people-oriented naturalism and changes the behavior pattern of the employees in the (conventional) indoor office. It turns the workplace into the symbiosis with garden nature and allows people to enjoy the outdoor for a longer time. This is a case study in the subtropical region of Taiwan, where summer is humid and hot. After the outbreak of the pandemic, multi-functional workplaces have become the trend. Enterprises and companies have been encouraging employees to work outdoors to improve their physical and mental health. A garden office that emphasizes mobility, choice, health, and leisure activities has been created. It is a major innovation about how to use and define outdoor space. The garden office is an open place that blends in with nature and at the same time equipped with the multiple functions of living, working, socializing and relaxing. The garden office includes a meeting room, working space, tele-communication equipment and the tea station.
