Shanghai Nanxiang Incity MEGA is located in Nanxiang, Jiading District, Shanghai with a commercial floor area of 190,000 m2. Based on the understanding of future commercial development trends, the Project takes the concept of “experience center” rather than “shopping center” as the inspiration for its products and design, and proposes the concept of creating an influential “one-day micro resort” in the Yangtze River Delta region. Due to its magnificent size and proximity to the elevated metro line in the northeast of the site, terraced building design is required as per the government. As a result, the otherwise large atrium is split into three two-floor-high atria of smaller size, and the theme “Crane’s Journey” is introduced. The mall is thus divided into three themed areas, namely “Dancing atrium”, “Singing atrium” and “Nesting atrium”, which respectively relate to leisure, sports, and education & entertainment area. Dancing atrium of attractive feathers and curvy elements. Singing atrium employs colorful LED devices as synesthesia to express the sound of “singing” through the color changes, bringing dynamically changing colors into the space. Nesting atrium is an abstract expression of three geographic spaces of distinctive styles along the cranes’ journey, i.e., “forest”, “wetland” and “mountains”, creating the biggest highlight and IP collections of the project. The crane symbol is incorporated and integrated throughout the Project, realizing a holistic design of architecture, interior, and landscape. The challenging commercial circulation is creatively solved, providing the possibility of realizing some special highlight spaces in this area. Among all, He Qi (Crane Habitat) creatively introduces the botanical garden into the shopping center, making itself the biggest highlight of the project while successfully helping secure the LEED Platinum certification for the project.
