Treasure Chest of Forest

Beitou, a unique area with hot springs, the Zen Garden during the Japanese rule, old streets, floral bloom season, and rich natural ecology, is where the project locates. The ingenuine box concept that the designers came up with is used to “collect” the rich local cultural and natural characteristics. The translucent media and materials and green landscaping are applied to the design of architecture to construct an organism accompanied by trees and flowers. The interior corridor, patio, and courtyard setting like the Zen Garden, furthermore with the warm teak materials, infuse a harmonious integration of the building and the environment as well deepen the old residents’ emotional connection to the land and sense of identity to the local community.



Looking from the road on the west side of the construction to the east, the box-shaped architecture, with its’ translucent volume and penetrating openings, shows the looming greenery of the park, not only igniting the curiosity of the passerby but also forming a close visual connection with the streets. Contrasting with the sleek and neat exterior, the interior which is composed of a variety of flexible spaces articulates the diverse spirit of the brand. The design of the project surpasses the regional aspect and elevates the plan of regional architecture to a part of future urban greening.



The steel structure is adopted as the main structure to both the building and the interior, with a view to balancing the overall warm and cold contrast, durable and elegant teak materials are selected in the design. In addition, a large area of the interior is paved with plain terrazzo flooring; the nostalgic Taiwanese design not only echoes the humanistic culture but also shortens the distance between the public.
