1 Please give us a brief bio of yourself and your design background.

I am Artem Kropovinsky, the founder of Arsight, a leading interior design studio based in New York City. Over the last decade, I've been privileged to lead a team of dedicated professionals in crafting high-end residential and commercial spaces, both nationally and internationally. Our portfolio boasts an eclectic mix of designs for esteemed establishments like hotels, restaurants, and private residences. Our work's caliber is often recognized, and I am proud to say that we've been featured in renowned publications such as The New York Times, Domino, and Interior Design Magazine. Furthermore, our achievements in the design realm are evidenced by our accolades in several prestigious international design competitions.

2 What made you become/why did you choose to become a designer/artist?

Design is deeply ingrained in my DNA. Growing up, I was surrounded by the world of interior design, with both my parents being involved in the field. Their passion inevitably seeped into me, igniting my drive to not just be a part of the design industry but to revolutionize it. My love for art, architecture, and design isn't merely a career choice – it's an intrinsic part of who I am.

3 Tell us more about your business/company, job profile, and what you do.

Arsight is more than just an interior design studio. We pride ourselves in offering comprehensive, turn-key services to our clients. This holistic approach allows our clients the luxury of entrusting their project to one dedicated team, streamlining the experience and ensuring the utmost quality.

4 What does “design” mean to you?

Design, to me, is a symphony of aesthetics, functionality, and emotion. It's an ever-evolving narrative that reflects the essence of its inhabitants while harmonizing with its environment. It's not just about creating spaces; it's about curating experiences.

5 What’s your favorite kind of design and why?

I am a firm believer in creating designs that are functional, personal, and timeless. Especially in interiors, the design should resonate with the client's lifestyle or a brand's ethos. While trends come and go, a design that is both aesthetically pleasing and purposeful stands the test of time.

6 To you, what makes a “good” design?

A 'good' design seamlessly marries form and function. It should resonate on an emotional level, invoking a sense of belonging and comfort while fulfilling its intended purpose with elegance and efficiency.

7 Describe your design style and its main characteristics.

My design style champions the beauty of imperfections and celebrates the unique intricacies of handcrafted elements. Drawing from a palette of natural materials, I emphasize the tactility of surfaces and layering to create a space that feels both authentic and inviting. Straying from cliché trends, I lean towards a fusion of classic elements with modern, handcrafted pieces. It's a playful yet experimental dance of contrasts – raw versus refined, classic juxtaposed with contemporary, creating a narrative that's both bold and functional.

8 Tell us about your design process.

My design process is inherently collaborative. It starts with an in-depth understanding of the client's vision and needs. From there, we create mood boards, sketches, and 3D visualizations, enabling the client to envision the final space. Continuous feedback loops and site visits ensure that the design evolves organically, marrying our expertise with the client's preferences. This iterative approach ensures that the final product is both innovative and personal.

9 Do you think your country and its cultural heritage has an impact on your design process?

Absolutely. My European roots have imbued me with a distinctive design sensibility – one that values craftsmanship, history, and authenticity. Europe's rich design heritage emphasizes functionality without compromising on aesthetics. In contrast, the US approach often focuses on innovation and grandeur. By blending the best of both worlds, I've been able to craft spaces that are both timeless and avant-garde.

The constant evolution – Design is never stagnant. It reflects the zeitgeist, ensuring that we, as designers, are always learning and evolving. Collaboration – Working with a diverse set of clients, architects, artisans, and other designers allows for a beautiful melding of ideas and perspectives.

15 What makes your country specifically, unique in the design industry?

New York, and by extension, the US, is a melting pot of cultures, ideas, and influences. This diversity is mirrored in its design landscape. The industry here is a harmonious blend of traditions and innovation, making it a vibrant and dynamic space. It offers an unparalleled opportunity to immerse oneself in this rich tapestry, allowing for unparalleled growth and exploration in the design realm.

16 Where do you see the evolution of design industry going over the next 5-10 years?

The future of interior design lies in sustainable, adaptive, and inclusive spaces. As we become more conscious of our environmental footprint, sustainable materials and energy-efficient designs will dominate. Additionally, spaces will be more adaptive, catering to a myriad of functions, reflecting our dynamic lifestyles. Lastly, design will champion inclusivity, ensuring accessibility and comfort for everyone.

17 If you were a student entering this industry or an aspiring MUSE Design Awards submitter, what advice would you give them?

Stay curious and never stop learning. Our industry thrives on innovation, so constantly expose yourself to new ideas, cultures, and techniques. Find your unique voice and be true to it; authenticity resonates more than imitation.

18 What resources would you recommend to someone who wants to improve their skills in the design industry?

Engage with design literature, be it magazines like Domino and Interior Design or seminal design books. Attend workshops, webinars, and international design fairs. Network with peers, mentors, and industry leaders. Immersing yourself in diverse experiences is the key.

19 Tell us something you have never told anyone else.

During my early days as a designer, I often second-guessed my decisions, fearing they wouldn't align with popular trends. Over time, I realized the power of authenticity and how spaces that genuinely reflect their inhabitants resonate far deeper than trend-driven designs.

20 Who has inspired you in your life and why?

My parents, both interior designers, have been my guiding lights. Watching them transform ordinary spaces into breathtaking experiences, all while prioritizing functionality and individuality, instilled in me a passion for this art form.

21 What is your key to success? Any parting words of wisdom?

My mantra is simple: Design with empathy and authenticity. Every space has a story waiting to be told; our job is to weave that narrative beautifully. Stay true to your vision, continuously evolve, and always prioritize your client's needs and aspirations.
