The site was formerly a warehouse-style street house built in the 1960s. With its narrow frontage and deep layout, the building once accommodated a shopfront, factory, and residence simultaneously—faithfully reflecting the urban fabric of the historic Old Five Channels period in Tainan. When taking on the project, the design team chose not to erase these traces of time, but instead to allow history itself to become part of the design.
The renovation was guided by the core concept of “revitalizing the old.” Drawing inspiration from the red and black color memories commonly found in Taiwanese temples, and integrating them with contemporary craftsmanship, the project enables the building to speak anew within its historic streetscape. Bellus Ace thus becomes a transitional node, bridging Old Five Channels culture, contemporary design language, and the sensory experiences of travelers.
The entire building spans four floors and is planned as a hybrid hospitality space that integrates exhibition, work, and accommodation functions. The front portion of the ground floor adopts a semi-open exhibition concept as the main entrance, incorporating shared areas such as an open kitchen and bar. The bold red-and-black color palette delivers an immediate visual impact, while crisp lighting and linear elements blur the boundary between hotel and gallery. Two guest rooms are arranged at the rear of the first floor.
From the second to the third floors, five guest room types are introduced, each with a distinct design language. These include the industrial-themed “Xin Industrial,” the experimental “Iridescent” room that explores special materials and rainbow-like light effects, and the exotically styled “Arc Gold.” Each room stands as an individual scene, yet all are rooted in the shared structural framework of the historic building. The constraints of the narrow, elongated structure are transformed into visual axes and a layered spatial rhythm, offering visitors a richly varied and immersive experience.
