Perched atop a coastal hill in Fujian’s ancient Nanpan Village, this observation tower is more than a scenic overlook—it’s a symbol of innovation in rural-ecotourism integration. As a centerpiece of the Pingtan Northern Ecological Corridor—a nationally acclaimed road that links 24 villages—the tower embodies the vision of “transportation meets tourism, roads harmonize with villages.”

Inspired by tree branches and the village’s coastal heritage, the tower’s clean white form and flowing silhouette resemble a graceful “jade tree” rising from the hills—a welcoming landmark that guides fishermen back home and invites visitors to explore. Its spiral staircase winds around a sturdy concrete core, revealing new views at every turn: rows of wind turbines along the ridgelines, traditional stone houses tucked into the valley, and the horizon where sea and sky merge. Carefully positioned openings along the ascent frame shifting scenes, building anticipation until visitors reach the top. There, a transparent floor creates a sense of floating above the landscape, with sunlight streaming down through the tower’s crisscrossing steel “branches.”

Designed for Pingtan’s coastal climate, the tower blends durability with elegance. While its core uses robust concrete, prefabricated 316 stainless steel components—bolted, not welded—ensure corrosion resistance, easy assembly, and low maintenance. Remarkably, all components were disassembled, transported to the mountaintop by mules, and assembled on-site—a testament to thoughtful, context-driven engineering.

The tower also promotes sustainable development. Built with recycled steel, it minimizes ecological impact while creating immersive cultural experiences that connect visitors to fishing traditions and village life.
