Concept: The Intersection of Furniture and Architecture This project is a profound exploration of the designer's own lifestyle. To break the constraints of a limited footprint, we decisively removed the original third-bedroom wall, liberating a cramped layout into an expansive, continuous living and dining domain. Eschewing traditional heavy partitions, the project instead utilizes systematic components crafted from birch plywood that integrate storage, guidance, and spatial definition. These architectural furniture pieces act as micro-landscapes within the home, not only enhancing visual transparency but also transforming the residents' daily movements into a curated journey of materials and light.
Materiality and Sensory Experience The design language emphasizes the purity of materiality. The delicate grain of light-toned birch plywood engages in a cross-material dialogue with the tactile, granular texture of artisanal plaster walls. This warmth balances the crispness of modern geometric lines, creating a harmonious and inviting domestic foundation. Light plays a pivotal role: while expansive floor-to-ceiling windows invite dynamic natural light, the linear shadows cast by black blinds create a poetic rhythm of light and shadow that evolves across surfaces throughout the day.
Functional Fluidity and Ritual With the expansion of the public zone, the living and dining area transforms into a multifunctional core for social interaction and work, equipped with integrated power outlets at the bar. The focal point of the dining area is a vintage metal pendant lamp, personally sourced and hand-carried by the designer from a second-hand shop in Berlin; its aged texture serves as a soulful counterpoint to the warmth of the birch wood. We reshape the essence of rest through a low-profile design language. In the master bedroom, the exceptionally low birch bed frame minimizes the distance between the resident and the ground, visually making the ceiling appear higher and more vast. This is a reimagining of the rituals of modern life—finding the essence of tranquility within a minimalist order.
