About The Entry

This project is a large-scale municipal-industrial complex that integrates seawater desalination, freshwater storage, and municipal water supply. In response to the UAE’s acute freshwater scarcity and traditional desalination models’ high energy consumption and carbon emissions, it is built around the core concept of “large-scale seawater desalination powered by green energy,” establishing a future-ready infrastructure for urban water security.

The project is powered entirely by green energy throughout its operation, completely breaking away from the reliance on fossil fuels in traditional seawater desalination and achieving zero-carbon clean production across the entire process. Given its proximity to a wetland reserve, protective measures such as transplanting marine flora and scheduling construction activities to avoid sea turtle breeding seasons are implemented, fostering harmonious coexistence between the industrial infrastructure and the natural environment—fully embodying the principles of sustainability.

The facility layout is organized along the process flow, with core zones—including seawater intake, pretreatment, reverse osmosis desalination, post-treatment, and freshwater storage—arranged in sequence. Personnel flow, transport routes, and process pipelines are systematically separated to minimize cross-interference, forming a streamlined and efficient production pathway. The incorporation of GIS and electrical system zones, administrative offices, and auxiliary operation and maintenance buildings ensures reliable system performance. Furthermore, the project leverages local construction conditions and industrialized production advantage, adopting a collaborative strategy of on-site casting and factory prefabrication to balance disaster resilience with construction precision. In addition, to withstand the harsh marine environment, both building envelopes and core structures undergo specialized treatments for salt mist resistance, corrosion protection, and weather durability. This greatly prolongs service life and reduces maintenance frequency, enabling sustainable operation throughout the entire lifecycle from construction to maintenance.
