Located in Miaogang Community, Qidu, Wujiang, the Sakura Parking Lot is an urban renewal project that transforms the former aquatic products market into a “parking + pocket park” shared space. Covering around 1,500 square meters, it eases local parking shortages while improving community aesthetics and livability as part of Qidu’s “P+ Program”.
The design includes 34 standard parking spaces with permeable paving for ecological rainwater management. Sixteen cherry blossom trees are arranged to form linear canopies, bringing seasonal scenery and natural shade. Pedestrian-friendly corridors link parking areas with landscaped seating, softening the boundary between vehicle and public space.
Pavement art featuring fish, shrimp and crabs pays tribute to the site’s past as an aquatic poducts market. The concept “Once stalls, now parking spaces” creates a thoughtful continuity between history and present, preserving local memory while serving new functions.
Materials such as light gray concrete, anti-corrosion wood rest platforms and light-colored washed stone ensure durability and subtle elegance, with minimalist solar lighting for safe night use.
Embodying refined urban micro-renewal, the project turns idle land into a vibrant community hub. In spring, cherry blossoms make it a scenic attraction; year-round it offers a green retreat. By combining practical infrastructure with Jiangnan’s poetic landscape and local heritage, the Sakura Parking Lot enriches daily life, upgrades the townscape and strengthens community bonds.
