About The Entry
The decoration project of the Yihe Beichen Hotel in Baiyin, Gansu, represents a profound exploration of regional identity. The design masterfully weaves the heritage of the Yellow River, the city’s industrial legacy, and the poetic echoes of the Silk Road into a sophisticated, contemporary spatial narrative.
The project redefines traditional hospitality boundaries, transforming the entrance lobby into a “third space” designed for social interaction. By de-emphasizing the reception desk and introducing a striking art installation inspired by the Yellow River beach and fluid silk, the lobby establishes a powerful brand identity. This tribute to local heritage continues in the elevator lobby, where a wall etched with a satellite map of Baiyin celebrates the city’s rational order and mineral wealth. In the banquet pre-function area, the “Sunlight over the Stone Forest” concept is realized through custom copper elements that create a dappled play of light. This is complemented by rhythmic chandelier arrays and precision lighting, balancing ceremonial grandeur with elegant artistry.
The guest rooms focus on the essence of refined living through intuitive spatial planning. A dual-sliding door system creates a seamless circular flow between the sleeping area, bathroom, and walk-in closet, significantly enhancing spatial efficiency. The material palette translates the rugged spirit of mining culture into a tangible experience, harmonizing wire-mesh glass, weathered stainless steel, and embossed silver-tone finishes. This sophisticated experience extends to the corridors, where concealed lighting casts a soft, ambient glow, complemented by custom-cast aluminum door plates to evoke a sense of quiet elegance and ritual.
The project also balances an evocative, poetic experience with sustainable practices. Indoor landscaping is integrated directly into the spatial narrative, offering a serene “urban retreat” that connects guests with nature. To meet modern environmental standards, the design extensively utilizes prefabricated assembly systems in place of traditional wet construction. This approach enhances construction precision and efficiency while ensuring recyclability, perfectly aligning the hotel’s aesthetic vision with its commitment to environmental responsibility.
