Longmen Grottoes Art Exhibition

The Longmen Grottoes, hailed by UNESCO as “the pinnacle of Chinese stone carving art” and the world's largest and most extensive stone carving art treasure trove, tops China's major grottoes.

The exhibition “Millennium Longmen Meets Lingshan: Radiance of Two Buddhist Realms – An Art Dialogue between Longmen Grottoes and Lingshan Scenic Area” is co - hosted by the Longmen Grottoes Research Institute and Wuxi Lingshan Museum, a prominent Buddhist cultural site in China. This is the first time Longmen Grottoes artifacts are exhibited at the museum.

The show features 76 representative cultural relics from Longmen Grottoes, such as Buddhist sculptures, stone carvings, and calligraphy rubbings. Through immersive spatial design, theatrical staging, and integrated lighting, the museum gallery is transformed into a modern rendition of the grottoes' sacred ambiance. By blending historical relics with contemporary installation art, it engages visitors with Longmen's artistic, cultural, and spiritual legacies, boosting public awareness of heritage conservation.

During its 45 - day run from July to October 31, 2025, the exhibition attracted over 450,000 visitors. They experience a layered spatial narrative, progressing from historical exploration to immersive encounter. Sculptures and calligraphy relics surround large - scale installations. Suspended Buddhist banners, reflective floors, and dynamic lighting create multi - dimensional perspectives as visitors move around. A central lotus installation encourages visitors to stop, interact, and take photos, making the exhibition a reflective and participatory cultural event.
