About The Entry
Racecraft is a concept UX/UI system that reimagines the in-car digital experience of the Porsche GT3 RS for dedicated track use. On the racetrack, every millisecond matters, yet the stock Porsche display surfaces maps, music, and phone notifications that divide the driver's attention. Racecraft replaces that clutter with a purpose-built mode that prioritizes only the data that helps lap times drop.
The system unifies three coordinated surfaces. A distraction-free heads-up display shows the current lap time, with priority overrides for flag warnings and engine-temperature alerts. A dynamic infotainment screen surfaces live and historical lap times between laps. An instrument cluster adds color-coded tire-warming alerts, RPM-based gear-change cues, and a dual-scale corner map pairing a large upcoming-corner view with a small full-track reference.
Research combined an online racing-forum questionnaire with in-person driver interviews. Benchmarking against instructors, self-review via recorded video, and driving simulators revealed a gap no in-car product had filled: real-time performance analysis and visual gear-change prompts that simulators offer but production vehicles do not. Three rounds of testing, from paper to high-fidelity prototypes, refined the typography (Conthrax paired with SF Pro for Porsche heritage and at-speed legibility), the color semantics grounded in drivers' existing mental models, and a prominent red gear-shift alert drivers responded to faster than the incumbent yellow rev color.
Racecraft operates as an optional mode drivers switch to at the track, leaving standard road functionality untouched. It is built for drivers chasing lap times, delivering a clearer, calmer, more actionable picture of the car without adding cognitive load. Future iterations will layer in in-cabin and external video capture with telemetry overlays for post-session coaching, plus sensor-based alerts for on-track hazards like debris and low-grip surfaces.
