Soft Threshold

Soft Threshold is a compact urban apartment in Taiwan redesigned around a single question: how does a home receive its inhabitant?

The design begins at the entry. Walls carry a surface of quiet, artisanal texture — one that shifts subtly with the light across the day, neither clinical nor decorative, but simply present. A curved ceiling defines the living zone with a sense of overhead shelter, produced not through enclosure but through geometry. Cove lighting, recessed fixtures, and a glazed display cabinet are coordinated as a single luminous system, layering the atmosphere across the day.

Every material transition is resolved with deliberate care. The result is a space that rewards slow inhabitation — one that changes in character depending on the time of day, the quality of light, and the pace of the person moving through it.

Inhabitants report a consistent shift upon returning home: a slowing of pace, a release of tension, a feeling of genuine arrival. This is the ambition of ilot esprit design — not to produce spaces that impress on first encounter, but to produce spaces that continue to give, day after day.
