About The Entry

What lies at the heart of Tehul is the earth itself.

In the Uco Valley, Mendoza, the character of Malbec is not decided in the winery. It is decided centuries before, in the layers of alluvial soil — rich in minerals, shaped by glacial rivers, compressed over time into a geology entirely unique to this place. Tehul was born from a single conviction: that this invisible foundation deserved to be seen.

Tehul is a Huarpe word — from the indigenous people who inhabited the Uco Valley long before the first vine was planted — meaning what happens beneath the earth. The place where the wine is decided before it exists.

A fully custom mold was developed to transcribe into glass the soil layers of the Uco Valley. From the surface down to the fourth layer — where the roots of the Malbec vine settle — each stratum is represented in the glass itself, with its own texture and relief. Layer by layer, revealing the differences that make this soil so singular. The bottle does not illustrate the earth. It transcribes it. It does not feel manufactured. It feels unearthed.

The label placement was the most consequential decision in the project. It lives at the base — the lowest point, the deepest layer, the place where the most essential information about the wine resides. With multilevel digital screen printing, metallic doming, and debossing, its texture evokes the mineral, living quality of the soil. Semi-adhered by design, it can be removed, leaving the bottle as a standalone sculptural object. The packaging has a life beyond the product. The object outlasts the label.

Every element works together as a single coherent argument: that the most important thing about this wine cannot be seen, only felt — and that packaging design is the discipline uniquely capable of making the invisible tangible.

Tehul does not decorate. It does not illustrate. It makes visible what is normally hidden.

Tehul is not a name. It is an answer.
