Petal

Spring has always been a special season to me. I remember looking across fields filled with flowers and being fascinated by their beauty. What stood out to me most was the way their petals repeated in organized patterns. To me, the true beauty of a flower comes from this repetition, which creates balance, and harmony in nature. These memories inspired the concept behind my chair design.

The two main ideas guiding my design are repetition and adaptability. Repetition is found everywhere in nature, especially in flowers, where petals repeat around a central point. To reflect this concept, I incorporated a petal shape and circular cylinders throughout the chair. The repeated shapes create a natural and organic appearance while emphasizing visual unity.

Adaptability is represented through movement. Nature is constantly changing and adjusting to its environment, so I wanted my chair to embody this quality as well. The chair includes rotational joints that allow it to transform into different positions. This movement increases the functionality of the design while also making it more space-efficient. By changing its form, the chair can serve multiple purposes depending on the user's needs.

The chair is primarily constructed from metal, a durable and sustainable material that can be recycled. It consists of three paddle-shaped rings made from sheet metal and finished with recyclable leather or upholstery for comfort. A circular metal rod and joints allows the chair to move smoothly between positions and lock securely in place.

The design can be used in three different positions: a lounge position for relaxing comfortably, a bench position for everyday seating, and a lean-back position that provides a balance between comfort and support. By allowing the chair to transform between these configurations, it becomes more than just a functional piece of furniture. My intention was to translate the beauty, rhythm, and adaptability found in nature into the design itself. Through its organic forms and movement, the chair captures the elegance of flowers while remaining practical and versatile for everyday use.
