LiliAn – "Lychee Grow from the Tree"

Xi’an MixC is situated in Xi’an, China’s millennia-old ancient capital, functioning as an international shopping destination. Since its opening, it has risen to become one of the most talked-about hubs for fashion and lifestyle in Xi’an and across the country, thanks to Xi’an Tree — the 57-metre urban landmark designed by renowned international architect Thomas Heatherwick at the centre of the mall’s plaza.

Crafted entirely from steel, Xi’an Tree draws creative inspiration from the thousand-year-old ancient tree inside the Guanyin Temple, first founded in 628 AD.

In China’s Tang Dynasty, lychees were regarded as an ultra-exclusive imperial tribute. Native to southern China, lychees could not be cultivated in northern Xi’an. To let his beloved Consort Yang taste the fruit, Emperor Xuanzong dispatched couriers to transport lychees across thousands of miles. This tale has been immortalised in countless historical records and literary works.

In the summer of 2026, centred around Xi’an Tree, Xi’an MixC presents a 13.6-metre giant lychee art installation themed All Things Grow from the Tree. Complemented by supporting landscapes including a lychee waterfall and suspended aerial lychee sculptures, the installation narrates a romantic story: for the very first time, the Tree of Life bears fruit.

The entire landscape design chronicles the journey of this urban landmark — taking root, flourishing, and witnessing the millennium-long evolution of ancient Xi’an. Furthermore, this art installation project collaborates with Harper’s Bazaar China. The General Manager and Editor-in-Chief of the magazine attended the launch ceremony, jointly witnessing the brilliant bloom of this fruit symbolising fashion and culture.
