About The Entry
Dawn Chaser is a distributed lunar settlement designed to inhabit the Moon's terminator line—the moving boundary between lunar day and night. Rather than resisting the Moon's extreme environmental conditions, the project proposes a new architectural strategy: living along the edge of light.
The settlement consists of a network of permanent energy towers positioned along the terminator corridor and mobile habitat modules that relocate between these infrastructure nodes. By continuously operating within zones of perpetual daylight, the system maintains constant access to solar energy while avoiding the severe thermal extremes of the 13.5-day lunar night.
Each habitat module contains residential, research, agricultural, medical, and operational functions within a modular pressurized environment. A living algae biolayer forms the outer envelope, generating oxygen, supporting closed-loop resource cycles, and providing an additional layer of environmental protection. Inspired by cellular and leaf structures, the envelope transforms life-support infrastructure into a recognizable architectural identity.
The energy towers serve as the permanent backbone of the settlement, integrating photovoltaic and thermal collection, power distribution, communications, and operational support. Together, the towers and mobile habitats create a resilient system capable of adaptation, growth, and long-term habitation.
Rather than a static lunar base, Dawn Chaser proposes an evolving settlement network that follows the edge of daylight, redefining how architecture can support human life in extreme environments beyond Earth.
