About The Entry

This project is anchored in the dual philosophy of “Retreat and Understated Luxury.” By translating traditional Eastern etiquette into spatial narratives, reinterpreting cultural heritage through a contemporary lens, and employing a serene, neutral color palette, it unfolds an immersive journey home, seamlessly harmonizing a profound sense of ritual, cultural depth, and the warmth of everyday living.

The narrative of “being secluded amidst the urban landscape, yet luxurious in ambiance” is woven throughout the entire circulation path. From the ceremonial transition at the entrance to the distinct atmosphere of the courtyard, and into the layered textures and interplay of light and shadow indoors, every spatial shift echoes the traditional Eastern rhythm of introduction, continuation, transition, and conclusion. This deliberate choreography allows visitors to naturally transition from the urban bustle into a tranquil sanctuary. The resulting sense of ritual is not achieved through superficial symbolism, but through a tangible sensory experience shaped by guided pathways, carefully controlled sightlines, and dynamic spatial proportions.

Rather than directly replicating ancient artifacts, the design abstracts the fluid curves found in the porcelain and turquoise-inlaid ivory cups of Shang and Zhou dynasties. These dynamic lines are reimagined as expressive motifs that weave through the space, visible in ceiling designs, wall partitions, and furniture silhouettes. They act as spiritual metaphors, transforming the elegance and order of an ancient civilization into a tangible, rhythmic cadence that resonates with modern life.

Complementing this spatial and cultural narrative is a color palette that embodies the wisdom of recessive aesthetics. The trio of gray, white, and earthy tones is deeply rooted in the urban memory of Zhengzhou. The gray reflects the solemnity of ancient rammed-earth city walls and the weight of bronze vessels; the white draws inspiration from the philosophical negative space of oracle bone script; and the earthy tones echo the embracing layers of Yellow River silt. This restrained color system never competes for attention. Instead, it provides a quiet backdrop for textures, light, and objects to take center stage, subtly reflecting the rich historical heritage of the city.
