About The Entry
The Beijing‑Suiyuan Railway History Exhibition Hall is built on the former site of Baita Railway Station, a Major Historical and Cultural Site Protected at the National Level. It serves as a benchmark project for the revitalization of northern Inner Mongolia industrial heritage and the innovative integration of red‑themed museum culture.
First built in 1921, Baita Railway Station stands as a key surviving relic of the Beijing‑Suiyuan Railway, China’s first independently‑constructed railway. It once functioned as a vital red‑themed transport hub on the grassland. This century‑old station bears witness to the revolutionary progress, ethnic integration and railway upgrades across northern frontier lands.
Centered on the core design philosophy of “coexistence of the old and new, dialogue across time and space”, the exhibition hall adopts original railway‑related elements including rail textures, platform corridors and locomotive components. Combined with the regional features of the Yinshan Grassland in the northern borderland, it creates an immersive exhibition space boasting profound historical deposits and contemporary aesthetic appeal.
The project pioneers a multi‑dimensional immersive experience system and renovates museum narrative approaches. Seven historic scenarios are reproduced, such as the steam locomotive, century‑old bridges and tunnels, and the early‑era railway Party‑branch site, alongside special displays about ethnic unity. Four interactive facilities are installed, including a herringbone‑shaped dynamic sand table and a high‑speed‑train driving simulator. Multiple documentary multimedia videos are also applied. With technologies breathing life into history, static cultural relics are transformed into accessible and interactive chronological narratives. It comprehensively demonstrates the evolution of the Beijing‑Suiyuan Railway from a century‑old steam‑powered route to a modern high‑speed rail network.
Revitalizing the century‑old railway industrial heritage, the project blends historic charm with cutting‑edge technology. It inherits red cultural traditions and embodies ethnic unity values. Boasting ideological‑political popular‑science functions as well as cultural‑tourism merits, it has established a distinctive northern‑borderland landmark for railway‑themed culture.
