Shadows of the Grille: Forty Years and Beyond

Originating from a family home carrying over forty years of memories, this project reinterprets Taiwan’s traditional street house culture, elevating renovation into a sustainable continuation of life. Rather than replacing history, the design retains iconic wrought-iron grilles and patterned tiles, reinterpreting them through refined modern craftsmanship and fair-faced concrete.

The design connects traditional elements with contemporary living. By integrating an open-plan layout with flexible glass sliding doors, daylight filters fluidly into the interior, creating a harmonious dialogue between memory, light, and modern spatial aesthetics. This retirement residence stands as an inheritable model where local heritage and timeless lifestyle converge.
