About The Entry
Hui Ming Tea is a geographically indicated tea from southern China and has won international awards. The specially designed tea canister for this tea harmoniously integrates cultural symbolism with practical functionality.
The origin of Hui Ming Tea is rooted in a legendary tale: Hui Ming, a historical figure in ancient China who was once a general, planted tea trees during his travels in a mountainous region. He brewed tea using his own method to help villagers suffering from a plague, alleviating their symptoms. Grateful locals later learned tea cultivation and processing techniques from him, a tradition that has been passed down to this day.
The lid of the canister ingeniously combines two iconic forms from Chinese culture—the helmet of an ancient general and the roof of a traditional Chinese pavilion—directly echoing the legend of General Hui Ming. This dual reference imbues the design with both narrative depth and dignified elegance.
The hexagonal body of the canister follows ergonomic principles, offering a comfortable grip and stable stacking. Its geometric rhythm subtly alludes to the six essential steps in Hui Ming Tea’s traditional processing method.
Altogether, this vessel encapsulates Chan (Zen) tea philosophy, historical narrative, contemporary craftsmanship, and modern design. More than just a container for storing tea, it becomes a cultural artifact that tells the story of Hui Ming Tea itself.
