Born to please myself

Located in Tianshan Mansion, Urumqi, this 247 ㎡ large flat is themed Born to Please Oneself and designed in a Wabi-Sabi Eclectic style. Rejecting stereotyped internet-famous home decoration modes, the design never compromises forms and materials to cater to popular trends. Centered on the spirit of "pleasing oneself", it advocates that aesthetics need not cater to others, and spaces should respond to residents’ inner needs. Adopting travertine, burl wood, micro-cement and other natural materials, the design embraces their inherent textures, color variations and uneven surfaces. Soft curved surfaces define spatial boundaries, while a circulating circulation connects the whole residence, separating open public zones and private quiet areas. Integrated hidden storage meets long-term family living demands. Equipped with a layered soft lighting system without main lamps, the space blends natural light and diffused glow to create a soothing atmosphere. Infused with the tranquil and vast temperament of Northwest China, it offsets the cold tone of pure Wabi-Sabi and adapts to the dry northern climate. This design builds a spiritual retreat sheltered from urban hustle and bustle, embodying the philosophy of embracing imperfection and staying true to oneself.
