About The Entry

Located in the core urban area of Yushan District, Maanshan City, the project is surrounded by rich ecological resources, including Yanghu Park and Donghu Scenic Area, while benefiting from convenient transportation networks and complete urban facilities. Integrating natural landscapes, cultural heritage, and contemporary living demands, it creates a high-quality residential environment featuring a unique mountain-and-water urban landscape pattern.

Rooted in the minimalist aesthetics of the Song Dynasty, the design reinterprets traditional oriental living philosophy through modern spatial language. Addressing the heavy forms, stylistic homogenization, and monotonous experiences commonly found in traditional Chinese-style communities, the project creates a contemporary residential landscape that balances cultural depth, ecological value, and refined living quality.

The overall planning inherits the progressive spatial rituals of Song Dynasty residences, establishing a three-level ceremonial homecoming experience through gate, courtyard, and garden sequences. By refining traditional landscape elements and integrating local natural textures, the design transforms pavilions, corridors, bridges, and water features into modern expressions of oriental aesthetics. Utilizing the site’s natural elevation changes, it builds a three-dimensional mountain-and-water landscape system with layered terraces, elevated corridors, and immersive viewing experiences, recreating the poetic atmosphere of traditional mountain dwellings.

Material innovation is another key feature of the project. A culture-driven stone application system is developed through the careful selection of four premium natural stones: Platinum Diamond, Pandora, Blue Jade, and Snow White. Each material is applied according to spatial functions and cultural meanings, creating a harmonious dialogue between material texture and landscape atmosphere. From the elegant ceremonial axis to tranquil waterfront courtyards and vivid sunken gardens, the stones contribute to a coherent spatial narrative and enhance the contemporary oriental character.

The project also integrates sustainable landscape strategies based on sponge city principles. Permeable pavement, rain gardens, sunken green spaces, and intelligent water management systems optimize rainwater utilization and reduce resource consumption. Native plants are selected to establish resilient ecological communities, improving biodiversity while lowering maintenance demands. Through localized materials, clean energy applications, and low-maintenance landscape systems, the project achieves a balance between refined residential experience and long-term environmental sustainability.
