Dusit D2 Feydhoo Maldives

DusitD2 Feydhoo Maldives is set on an untouched island in the heart of the Indian Ocean. Rather than competing with its extraordinary surroundings, the design takes a restrained approach, allowing architecture to recede and nature to become the true focus. Inspired by the idea of a "garden on the sea," the project brings together the warmth of Thai hospitality and the raw beauty of the Maldives, creating a calm and immersive resort experience where two island cultures meet naturally.

The design responds carefully to the island's fragile ecosystem and equatorial climate. Low-rise buildings are gently placed along the shoreline to preserve the existing landscape and vegetation. Locally crafted coconut weaving, rattan, coral, and wood are used throughout the interiors, while deep roof overhangs and natural ventilation help minimise reliance on mechanical cooling. Each of the four restaurants draws inspiration from a different cultural tradition—from lively Thai streets and Mediterranean coastal dining to East Asian craftsmanship—yet all share the same restrained architectural language, where cultural identity is embedded within structure, materials and craftsmanship rather than applied as decoration.

Across 127 villas, indoor and outdoor living flow seamlessly together. Overwater villas appear to float above the lagoon, framing uninterrupted views of the ocean and sky. By stepping into the background, the design allows light, sea breeze and the rhythm of the tides to shape the experience, creating a peaceful retreat where nature becomes the lasting memory.
