Rattan & Rays

Rattan & Rays is a residence tailored for a single occupant. Returning to the user's core needs, the original three-bedroom, living room, and dining room layout featured a secondary bedroom that constricted the living room and created long hallways, separating living, dining, and kitchen zones. The designers eliminated the secondary bedroom at the heart of the social area to release the enclosed space, enabling sightlines, natural light, and circulation to flow freely.

The project name reflects its spatial essence. Rattan accents appear across entryway cabinetry, social areas, and lighting fixtures, serving as a unifying material language. Large window expanses use sheer curtains to soften daylight without obscuring outdoor views. Capitalizing on generous building spacing, the home offers vistas of the riverbank, cityscape, and lush trees. Daylight shifts over time, weaving together dark wood tones and natural textures.

Here, harmonious living refers not only to sunlight, but to an agreeable, balanced state of life. The design avoids rigid definitions, cultivating a fluid sanctuary where natural light, materials, and daily routines interact effortlessly.
