Meilishan Lotus View Private Villa

The project transforms the site’s inherent lake and lotus-pond landscape into the defining value of a lakeside resort residence. Through careful analysis of the site’s topography, natural surroundings and solar exposure, the design establishes a spatial language centered on the integration of architecture, landscape and everyday living.

Addressing the fragmented layout and insufficient natural lighting of the original villa, the spatial organization was comprehensively restructured to strengthen connections between interior and exterior. Frequently used living functions are consolidated on the basement level, while generous double-height spaces, arched structures and full-height glazing create visual continuity toward the garden, lotus pond and lake. When the full-height doors are opened, the boundary between indoors and outdoors becomes fluid, allowing natural light, vegetation and water views to become integral elements of the interior experience.

The interior adopts a restrained palette of warm earth tones, combining natural wood, solid stone, metal and textured plaster. Subtle material contrasts introduce depth and tactility, while diffused daylight moves across the irregular plaster surfaces to create a calm and restorative atmosphere. The living room is organized around a low-profile modular sofa oriented toward the outdoor landscape, reinforcing the sense of openness and connection with nature.

A dual-staircase system introduces a distinctive circulation experience. The black steel staircase connecting the ground floor and basement forms a visual focal point against the light-toned interior, complemented by dark ceiling and floor finishes and perforated brick walls. Custom irregular wall niches incorporate abstracted elements derived from the homeowners’ surnames, adding a subtle cultural imprint to the otherwise minimalist setting.

Outside, exposed aggregate paving echoes the texture of natural terrain, while the understated grey tones complement the surrounding greenery and tranquil lake surface. Together, the architectural, material and landscape strategies create an immersive residential retreat where nature, functionality and contemporary aesthetics coexist, offering a low-carbon lakeside living experience.
