PAZHOU-SOUTH TOD

Inspired by Guangzhou’s relationship with water, its mercantile heritage, and the intimacy of Lingnan family life, MDO conceived this residence as a contemporary “family ark.”

The yacht serves as the project’s spatial metaphor, translated through fluid curves, softened boundaries, and continuous circulation. Rather than relying on rigid partitions, changes in ceiling geometry, flooring, and materiality subtly define different functions while maintaining visual and spatial continuity. Living, dining, cooking, and social interaction can therefore unfold naturally within one connected environment.

This principle extends into the private areas, where each bedroom becomes an individual “cabin” shaped around the character and needs of its occupant. Restrained materials, refined craftsmanship, and carefully considered proportions create a sense of understated luxury.

The result is a residence that balances openness with privacy, connection with individuality, and movement with stillness — transforming the yacht metaphor into a contemporary framework for family life.
