About The Entry

Three standardized houses located in Japan. The surrounding environment is unfavorable, surrounded by transmission towers, waterways, and three-story buildings. However, these are also necessary for the infrastructure. Therefore, the plan is not to divide the houses, but to blend them in like a gradient.A "space" or "alley garden" is created, which serves as a community space with an ambiguous connection to the city.By considering the alley garden and the dwelling as an integrated unit and creating a plan overflowing with greenery, the value of the homes is enriched. These elements also foster friendly relationships, even in times of emergency. The courtyard features traditional Japanese designs, including paving stones, stepping stones, and exposed aggregate finishes.Benches, framed fences, and vertical lattices add accents, creating a lush, green space. The building side also incorporates terraces and human-scale visual variations.Planting between the living room and the courtyard provides privacy from outside views, while allowing residents to enjoy the greenery from within, enhancing the seasonal changes and the walking experience.Natural wood and diatomaceous earth-infused finishes are used in the interior spaces, creating a space that connects with nature.

This project aims to restructure relationships with elements that are necessary as infrastructure but undesirable for residential properties.Understanding the characteristics of the site and enhancing its value is the designer's goal.

Furthermore, a passageway garden loosely connects neighbors; everything is interconnected. If car spaces are placed on the road side and individual gardens are planned on the south side, the waterway obstructs the view, making it difficult to extend the green landscape to the surrounding area. This plan transforms what would normally be closed-off individual spaces into green spaces open to the city.
