About The Entry
【Overview】
Designed as a retirement home for a couple, the residence responds to the changing rhythms of life after retirement by integrating the homeowners’ lifestyles, social needs, and accessibility requirements. Audio equipment, air-conditioning, dehumidification, and energy-recovery ventilation systems are hidden in the ceiling, freeing up the limited floor space. By maintaining stable temperature and humidity while ensuring air exchange, the design creates a comfortable and healthy indoor environment, thoughtfully tailored to support ageing in place within a compact 25-ping residence.
【Functionality】
Upon entering the entryway, mirrored surfaces extend the visual depth, amplifying the sense of space despite the constraints of the existing structures. The shoe cabinet serves as a spatial node. A looped circulation path is organised to facilitate smooth movement with mobility aids while naturally separating different flows of movement throughout the home. Whenever guests come for a visit, a glass sliding door defines the kitchen, establishing primary and secondary circulation routes that intuitively guide guests towards the shared spaces.
To showcase the homeowners’ glass artworks, a warm beige backdrop is introduced to highlight their smooth, lustrous finish. Subtle layers of light and shadow across the glass artworks are reflected in touches of orange and gold foil on the wall. A restrained grey palette then tempers the overall composition, balancing the contemporary character of the interior with a sense of warmth and composure befitting the retired couple’s stage of life.
The glass-enclosed study room is equipped with studio-grade acoustic insulation, creating a private retreat for the couple while maintaining visual continuity through the transparent glass. Expansive windows bring in abundant natural light, providing the homeowners with a bright view while practicing calligraphy and lending the space a fresh, uplifting atmosphere. The magnetic lacquered glass wall provides a surface for displaying calligraphy works while reflecting the homeowners’ personal tastes.
