About The Entry
Situated among vast expanses of tea fields, the Baitang Town Tea Culture Exchange Center in Boluo County responds to the dual challenge of industrial heritage revitalization and tea industry transformation through a light-touch renovation approach. It incorporates continuous slab-like volumes, housing a fully equipped tea processing facility on the west and a multi-story hotel with a depth of 9 to 10 meters on the east. A second-floor platform and a rooftop walkway extending over 400 meters organically connect the two zones, creating a 3D circulation system that unites production, exhibition, and sightseeing.
Considering the spatial constraints of the narrow, elongated site, the project utilizes a method of breaking the mass into smaller volumes, leveraging stepped terraces and continuously folded pitched roofs to seamlessly integrate into tea-covered hills. The ultra-long linear rooftop walkway softly bridges the functional boundary between industrial production and cultural tourism. As the circulation path unfolds, visitors are immersed in a stage of shifting light and shadow, experiencing the interplay of spatial aesthetics and natural rhythms through ever-changing scenery.
The tectonic strategy is rooted in regional culture and climate. The use of hollow clay bricks and traditional gray tiles replicates the simple, understated texture of local architecture, evoking the rural memory of Lingnan. At the same time, passive energy-saving technologies—such as photovoltaic power generation and elevated ventilation—enable the building to self-regulate with natural cycles. Together, they achieve a harmonious fusion of technical rationality, aesthetic poetry, and environmental sustainability.
