About The Entry

The project directly challenges the ephemeral, single-use nature of traditional pop-up structures. Anchored in the narrative of Lingnan architectural order, it reinterprets regional culture for contemporary retail environments, establishing a modern "hall" that unites heritage, brand experience, and festive togetherness.

Drawing from traditional Lingnan halls, gateways, and gardens, the design extracts their spatial order and interplay of square and circular forms, reorganizing them through contemporary geometry. Square volumes interlock with circular structures, reinterpreting the traditional Chinese cosmological concept of “round heaven and square earth.” Cultural references extend into spatial details: a circular light combines Foshan lantern craftsmanship with the form of a Nespresso capsule; the Ripple Compass draws from the Eight Immortals Table and the New Year wish of fortune turning anew; while coiling Chinese knots replace literal zodiac imagery for the Year of the Snake. From architectural form to individual details, Lingnan culture becomes a contemporary language woven throughout the pavilion.

The layout unfolds through two entrances and two distinct experiential routes. Entering through “Ting”—the main hall—visitors transition smoothly from everyday urban life into curated coffee discovery. Conversely, entering through “Tang”—the atmospheric inner living room—the journey unfolds through immersive art before deepening into sensory brand exploration. The two routes eventually converge, allowing tasting, exploration, pause, and exchange to unfold naturally as a walkable Nespresso Coffee Journey.

A demountable and reconfigurable modular system extends the pavilion beyond a single installation. Based on 2m-wide and 1.5m-deep modules, standardized components enable flat-pack transport, rapid assembly, and flexible configurations from 6㎡ to 60㎡. The temporary pavilion thus becomes an evolving architectural system designed for repeated use, allowing local culture and the Nespresso experience to continue across different cities and contexts.
