Heyue Chenguang, Changsha

Located in Tianxin District, Changsha, the project comprises two residential communities on the east and west sides, with a total landscape area of approximately 48,000 sqm. Rather than treating the community as simply a container for living, the design envisions it as a shared environment where family members accompany one another, interact, and grow together.

The design proposes a landscape concept of “Growth through Companionship” and “Boundless Urban Forest Living.” Taking companionship as its thread, growth as its spatial narrative, and nature as its foundation, the landscape integrates spaces for parent-child interaction, neighborhood gathering, and personal retreat. Three strategies shape the experience: integrated circulation, which connects arrival routes with community functions and allows companionship to occur naturally throughout the journey; programmed nodes, which introduce five key spaces—Brilliant Arrival, Floating Platform Reflections, Forest Spirit Play, Leisure Courtyard, and Shaded Walk—providing opportunities to gather, pause, and grow; and nature as a continuous presence, transforming the journey home into an immersive experience of planting, water, light, and shadow.

The overall character combines contemporary simplicity with the poetry of nature, creating a forest-inspired setting for growth. The spatial experience unfolds through four emotional stages: “letting go” upon entering the community, “anticipation” along the central axis, “companionship” within the children’s play area, and “warmth” at the arrival hall. This gradual transition creates a relaxed, resort-like atmosphere within the city.

A palette of warm gray, soft blue, and natural wood establishes a calm and welcoming base, complemented by greenery, blue-green water, and warm lighting. Stone, timber, water, and light create contrasting yet harmonious textures. Translucent walls, screens, and reflective water surfaces further mediate light and material, allowing the landscape to express companionship not only through function, but also through a tangible sense of warmth.
