About The Entry
Located in Qujing, Yunnan, a city with a long history and profound cultural heritage, the project draws inspiration from the azalea, Qujing’s city flower, using “the soft power of a flower” as its conceptual starting point. The life cycle and expressive gestures of the azalea—from budding to full bloom—are abstracted into a contemporary spatial language. While paying tribute to Eastern aesthetics, the design responds to Qujing’s openness, cultural character and livability, creating a space that combines regional identity with a refined contemporary sense of luxury.
Centered on the idea of “Fusion of Past and Present, Continuation of Culture,” the design integrates natural imagery such as flowers, stones and butterflies with contemporary materials including metal, stone and textured fabrics. Rather than reproducing traditional symbols literally, it extracts and transforms the forms of the azalea: layered petal curves are translated into furniture details, while the moment of blooming becomes an artistic wall installation. Black-and-white veined marble, blue-white jade stone, textured wood and brushed brown metal establish subtle material contrasts, while ink black, smoky grey, jade white and botanical green create a restrained contemporary Eastern atmosphere.
The space moves beyond the conventional sales gallery model, using decentralized circulation and flexible furniture to accommodate both sales functions and future community lifestyles within a limited footprint. Private dining, tea rooms, a wine cellar, fitness and yoga areas, a lounge and a children’s reading space are integrated into the experience, transforming the venue into a multifunctional social and lifestyle destination. Extensive glazing introduces natural light and landscape views, while fabrics, carpets, wood elements and warm lighting soften the architectural finishes.
Sustainability is addressed through natural marble, solid wood and environmentally friendly fabrics that meet relevant standards, alongside consideration of furniture durability and product life cycles. The design takes the azalea as a cultural thread without relying on literal representation, weaving together regional heritage, natural poetry and contemporary lifestyles to create a modern Eastern space with a distinct sense of place.
