Xiaoxiang Supermarket Private Label Craft Beer Series

Craft beer is a relatively new category in China, and its emphasis on specialist knowledge can make it feel inaccessible to general consumers. Terms such as Sour Ale, Double Dry-Hopped IPA, and Imperial Stout may sound impressive, but they give curious consumers little sense of how a beer actually tastes, making it harder to choose.

To help local consumers understand these flavors, we turned to Chinese martial arts as a more intuitive language. Rooted in familiar imagery and the spirit of Wu Xia, martial arts offer a rich vocabulary of movements, stories, and associations that can build an emotional connection between consumers and each beer’s distinctive personality.

Returning Strike (Cucumber Sour Ale) evokes a sudden turn and an unexpected strike. This spear technique captures the beer’s bright opening acidity, followed by a surprising shift toward lingering sweetness—a reversal that catches the palate pleasantly off guard.

Half-Step Punch (DDH Double IPA) evokes a short step that unleashes an explosive punch. The name conveys concentrated power, echoing the intense burst of hop aroma and flavor delivered by double dry hopping. Even before the first sip, it brims with potential energy.

Mountain Crash (Imperial Stout) channels the force of a fighter crashing into an opponent with the full weight of their body. This Imperial Stout delivers a heavy, commanding impact through its substantial body, rich flavor, and powerful presence.

Through naming and packaging, we gave each beer a signature move that conveys its flavor and body. Bold, dynamic graphics bring these pairings to life, drawing on a shared cultural memory to make each beer’s qualities intuitively understood—and inspire a knowing smile.
