Campus on the Field

Campus on the Field is a rural school set within a mountainous landscape, rethinking the conventional model of enclosed classrooms and single-purpose teaching spaces. The project brings together learning, nature, cultivation, and everyday social interaction, transforming the campus into a continuous environment for education and communal life.

Responding to the natural contours of the site, a folded architectural form organizes classrooms, activity spaces, exhibition areas, planting zones, and shared spaces across the hillside. Ramps, terraces, and shifting floor levels connect these programs while negotiating the steep terrain, creating layered vertical relationships and a sequence of indoor, outdoor, and semi-outdoor learning spaces.

Rooftops and terraces are activated as spaces for planting, observation, play, and outdoor education, allowing learning to extend beyond the classroom. Rather than standing apart from its surroundings, the building unfolds with the hillside and becomes part of the landscape itself. In doing so, the school forms an open “learning landscape” where education, nature, hands-on experience, and community life are closely intertwined.
