The Ilisian

The Ilisian gives new life to one of Athens’ best known buildings, formerly the Hilton Athens. Edeko Lighting Studio designed the lighting throughout its hotel interiors, from the arrival and public areas to the guest rooms and suites, event spaces, wellness facilities and Athenian Lounge.

The project brings together spaces used in very different ways. Guests arrive, move through the building, spend time in their rooms, meet for a drink, attend an event or visit the wellness areas. We approached the lighting across those experiences, considering each space on its own and in relation to the others.

The guest rooms and suites have a different purpose from the shared areas. The lobby, corridors and event spaces each play their own part in the daily life of the building. The Athenian Lounge welcomes people from morning into the evening, while the wellness areas accommodate exercise and rest. Working across all these spaces meant paying attention to their individual uses and to the experience of moving between them.

The building has held a place in the life of Athens for decades. This lighting project belongs to its present chapter. It extends from the spaces guests share to the rooms they inhabit during a stay, bringing the hotel interiors together as one body of work.
