About The Entry

SquashSense is a connected training system for squash and tennis that combines a racket-mounted motion sensor, a courtside computing terminal, and a functional HTML-based app. It brings motion sensing, visual feedback, device control, and session review into a coordinated training experience.

A compact inertial measurement unit (IMU) mounts at the butt end of the racket handle. The separate courtside terminal processes data and presents training information, keeping the main display accessible during breaks in practice. Its live interface shows sensor information alongside camera-based body-pose visualization, while the analysis interface uses IMU data to display motion curves and estimated swing phases.

The HTML-based app is an operational part of the system. Users can connect to and control the device, view live data, revisit training records, and analyze their swings. These functions bring device operation, monitoring, and review together within one application.

The design connects physical movement with information that can be examined and discussed. Players can observe a session, return to recorded information, and identify moments worth reviewing with a coach. The aim is to make feedback easier to access and understand within the flow of training.

Development includes electronic assembly, sensor installation, terminal and enclosure integration, interface implementation, and HTML-based app development. The current project includes a functioning hardware-and-software prototype, with on-court photographs and screen recordings documenting its squash implementation. SquashSense approaches sports technology through the coordinated design of the sensor, terminal, and application, bringing live observation and later reflection into one connected product system.
